RACHAEL HENSON

Rachael Henson is a visual artist whose practice extends between the mediums of sculpture and photography. Her work combines elements from her upbringing in a multi-racial household in the suburbs of Dallas, with an interest in transience, materiality, and the uncanny. Much of Henson's work is expressed through a personal lens that connects to the viewer through senses like taste, smell, and touch. She has a particular interest in materials that can be transfigured into varying forms, like silicone, agar, or glass. From edible images that have taste profiles that are meant to elicit feelings, to jarring foam durian skins that are warm to the touch, the work is meant to be both repellent and inviting.

Rachael was a 2018 resident of the Hotbox residency in Austin, and was also a recipient of The Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund artist award in 2019.
