THE BOEDEKER
The Boedeker's Past:
Stationed at the entrance into The Cedars neighborhood in the heart of Dallas, The Boedeker stands as an enduring monument to the city's rich history. Erected in 1922, it began its life as the Boedeker Ice Cream factory, providing both block ice and ice cream to the growing Dallas community. This bustling hive of activity was an integral part of local life, supplying sweet delights and essential goods alike until 1954, when it was sold and its original operations ceased.
As the whispers of the city's history tell us, The Boedeker has more to its story. During the Prohibition era, the same tunnel used to deliver ice from the basement of the Boedeker was reportedly used in the illicit transfer of liquor to the nearby Ambassador Hotel's Speakeasy, adding a dash of intrigue to its past.
Now, The Boedeker is poised for a transformation. The Boedeker is set to be the future home of The Cedars Union. This revitalization project will honor the building's history while shaping its future role as a vital center for Dallas' flourishing artistic community.
The Boedeker will be the newest addition to The Cedars Union campus. The Boedeker is an embodiment of our mission to support, foster, and accelerate the growth of the vibrant artistic community within Dallas.
