Workshop: Mold Making w/ Matt Bowdon
September 21 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free for CU Members/CU Membership Required
Join us for a hands-on workshop on the basics of mold making, covering three essential techniques: alginate molds, silicone molds, and plaster molds. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to expand your skills, this workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to capturing intricate details and creating durable molds for a variety of artistic applications.
We’ll start with alginate molds, perfect for quick and detailed impressions, often used for body casting. Next, we’ll explore silicone molds, known for their flexibility and durability, ideal for repeated casting of materials like resin, wax, or even chocolate. Finally, we’ll dive into plaster molds, a traditional method used extensively in sculpture and ceramics, perfect for creating robust, reusable molds.
Participants will gain hands-on experience with each material, learning the unique properties, best practices, and safety considerations for working with alginate, silicone, and plaster. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own cast objects to take home, along with the knowledge to continue experimenting with mold making in your own practice.
All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary. Come ready to learn, get your hands dirty, and discover the versatile art of mold making!
