CU Lecture: Best Practices with JD Moore
March 1 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for the third installment of our Best Practices series on March 1st, featuring Cohort 3’s multi-faceted artist, JD Moore. A native of Dallas, JD Moore has been a full-time artist in the Dallas/Fort Worth area since 2013 when he graduated from a tattoo apprenticeship under the guidance of Gerald Garcia at Last Angels Tattoo Co.
JD’s artistic journey unfolds in his captivating painting work, characterized by narrative-driven oil and acrylic portraiture. His artistic influences draw from the Renaissance, Neoclassicism, and Realism periods, resulting in a rich tapestry of visual storytelling.
In 2017, JD offered a glimpse into his unique approach to figurative art in a feature published in the February issue of The Plano Profile Magazine. Subsequently, he shared his experiences and artistic expression during a two-week residency in Oquevaux, France, with an interview on Austere.com. His quest for artistic growth led him to a month-long residency at La Macina di San Cresci in Tuscany, Italy, where he delved into the art of fresco painting under the tutelage of Emanuele Capozza.
Notably, JD’s artistic endeavors have extended into the public domain. In late 2019, he was commissioned by both the Deep Ellum Foundation and the Thanks-Giving Foundation to create his first two public murals in Dallas, Texas.
Currently, JD is immersed in crafting a new series of paintings while furthering his tattooing, CAD, and woodworking skills while actively seeking new mural opportunities. Don’t miss the chance to gain insights into the artistic journey of this remarkable talent, as he shares his experiences, influences, and the passion that drives his creative pursuits.
