P. SETH THOMPSON

With influences ranging from lo-fi aesthetics, movies, quantum physics, NASA, and digital anomalies, P. Seth Thompson considers the image's role in shaping and altering one's perception. Postmodernism, and its successors, hold steady within Thompson's work. His recent interest in VHS tapes–a dead media–stems from trips to the video rental store as a kid. As a result, movies became an extension of Thompson's self; watching, rewatching, pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding the film, he became attached to the cinematic multiverse. By appropriating nostalgia and incorporating his collectibles, Thompson creates a dialogue on how abstraction becomes a tangible part of shared reality.

Thompson received a BA in film and video from Georgia State University in 2005 and an MFA in photography from SCAD-Atlanta in 2012. Thompson has curated the group exhibition Racecar for the Zuckerman Museum of Art, Short Shorts: The Jump Cut at Whitespace Gallery, and Kiki Smith: Rituals for the High Museum of Art. He has taught photography and video at the University of Georgia and Kennesaw State University.

Thompson's work has appeared in Art in America, ArtsATL, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles, The Atlantan, Bad at Sports, Burnaway, Creative Loafing, OtherPeoplesPixels Blog, Oz Magazine, WABE, and the television series Satisfaction. The United States, China, and France have exhibited Thompson's work in solo and group exhibitions. His work is in the permanent collection of Sir Elton John, the High Museum of Art, the Fulton County Arts Council, Museum of Contemporary Art-GA, the Tavistock Group, LLC, and many private collections.
